There's no real precision to the arrangement of the stones here; as if the only point was to have a tall central monolith ringed by thirteen smaller stones. The lump in the earth at the centre is the remains of a burial chamber which was added, along with the compass-point 'arms', five hundred years after the original arrangement was set up. The earliest arrangement is estimated to be 5000 years old.

While beautiful and a pleasure to look at from any angle, these stones feel old and tired, like a war veteran whose only life was the army: their purpose has been forgotten, and they know it.
